Frequently Asked Questions:
Is Dr. Osorio a vascular surgeon?
No. Rather than treat patients surgically, the goal of our practice is to help patient's avoid surgery. For this reason, our practice is dedicated to Phlebology, the non-surgical treatment of venous disorders.
What is Phlebology?
Phlebology is a new specialty, dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease. Due to the surge in innovations in vein therapy, and the number of physicians dedicating their practices to venous disease, the American Medical Association (AMA) has now formally recognized Phlebology as a distinct medical specialty. Phlebology received AMA specialty recognition in 2006. More information regarding Phlebology can be found at the American College of Phlebology's website www.phlebology.org
What special qualifications does Dr. Osorio have to treat vein disease?
Dr. Osorio began medical practice in the military, and provided the full spectrum of medical care, as a board certified Family Physician. Since completing his military obligation, in 2002, he has focused his medical practice exclusively on venous disease. He undertook dedicated training with several prominent Phlebologists and Vascular Surgeons, and earned the RVT and RPVI credential from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). The RPVI credential stands for Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation and RVT is Registered Vascular Technologist. Dr. Osorio is one of the few physician's in the southwest to hold both of these ARDMS credentials.
Furthermore, Dr. Osorio is board certified in Phlebology. As a board certified vein specialist, he has special education and training to evaluate and treat a wide variety of venous disorders. Dr. Osorio was one of the first in Arizona to receive board certification by the American Board of Phlebology.
Dr. Osorio stays abreast the new developments in venous therapy by actively participating in the American College of Phlebology, the Society for Vascular Ultrasound and by treating advanced cases of venous disease on humanitarian missions to Latin America. He is a referral resource for several of the wound centers across the Valley.
